Foundation of the group

Aldeia Capoeira is a capoeira group that was founded in 2001 by Mestre Araminho and students.
The name Aldeia actually means settlement. It's a word used to describe the smaller villages in Brazil.
The name was chosen because when the group was founded it was of a way smaller size than the biggest capoeira groups of the world.

Aldeia is also an acronym for the words: Arte (Art), Luta (Fight), Dança (Dance), Esporte (Sport) Instrumento (Instruments), Alegria (Joy)

Words that describe capoeira since they are all part of it. The capoeira style of Aldeia is a mixture of different influences. The founder Mestre Araminho has been part of the big capoeira groups Senzala and Abadá for years. These groups have left their mark on the style of our group.

The Teachers that give lessons within the Aldeia Capoeira Group

Mestre Araminho
(Marcos Aurelio Alves Furtado) - 11-04-1967 - Fortaleza - Ceará
Corda: Vermelha (Red)

Started capoeira in 1981 with Mestre João Baiano and his students. Went to train with Mestre Squisito afterwards. When this Mestre moved away, Araminho afiliated with Mestre Paulão Ceará (a professor of the group Senzala Capoeira at the time) and started giving lessons mid eighties.
He received the graduation corda roxa in the Senzala group in 1988. When professor Paulão left Senzala, Araminho affiliated himself to the group of the former teacher of professor Paulão: Abada Capoeira of Mestre Camisa, in 1989. He participated over ten years in this group. In 1995 he came to Holland to develop capoeira there. In 2001 he created his own group: Aldeia Capoeira, together with his students in the Netherlands. In 2008 he received the master graduation by Mestre Squisito, one of his former masters and the one who gave him his nickname 'Araminho' which means iron wire, due to his strenght and flexibility in his youth.

Well known for his transformations and diversity in the game of capoeira. Has still met quite few of the old capoeira masters like: Mestre Waldemar, Mestre Canjiquinha, Mestre Caiçara, Mestre Gato Preto and others. He was one of the pioneers in games full of acrobatics, in Fortaleza in the eighties. Next to having a lot of experience in practicing and teaching capoeira he has also build a reputation within the musical side of capoeira, developping himself into a good instrument maker, especially caxixis.
